Castanet's Satellite Contribution Network Feed and Standalone Wholesale Service
In earlier posts we described the hybrid ATSC 3.0 / 5G Broadcast terrestrial layer and the standalone 5G Broadcast Internet service that delivers live events, video-on-demand, and AI-generated content directly to consumer devices.
This post focuses on a foundational piece of the full Castanet system: VoDoS (Video-on-Demand-over-Satellite) is both a powerful standalone wholesale service and the critical contribution network feed that powers the terrestrial Castanet 5G Broadcast Internet.
One-to-All Distribution from Space
Castanet VoDoS is a multi-partner collaboration that delivers a comprehensive one-to-all, direct-to-consumer and wholesale satellite CDN service. It includes full online and offline DRM protection and is designed for national and international scale.
The platform combines satellite efficiency with the power of edge-caching. This hybrid approach solves the streaming industry’s most persistent problems:
Lower cost of delivery through true one-to-all satellite network
Consistent quality of service independent of last-mile congestion
Unlimited scalability – additional viewers reduce, rather than increase, per-user cost
Studio-grade security with online and offline DRM

Dual Role in the Castanet World
VoDoS serves two complementary purposes.
1. Contribution network feeds for the terrestrial Castanet 5G Broadcast Internet
Content originates in the cloud and is efficiently transported via satellite network into the Castanet terrestrial infrastructure. This supplies the hybrid ATSC 3.0 / 5G Broadcast network with the live, on-demand, and AI-generated assets that are then delivered over UHF spectrum to fixed and mobile devices – including future 3GPP Release 19 smartphones that require no SIM and impose no data caps.
2. Standalone wholesale satellite service
The same platform gives operators and content owners a flexible, high-capacity distribution option that works independently or in combination with the Castanet 5G Broadcast Internet.

Target Markets
The initial focus is North America, with international expansion led by Apogee Networks.
